Recently, many netizens have been sharing videos on TikTok about technical malfunctions in amusement rides at Genting Highlands, Malaysia. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
TikTok user Jaclyn posted a video two days ago claiming that the Samba Gliders ride at Genting Highlands experienced a technical malfunction, causing the ride to suddenly stop, leaving passengers stranded in mid-air. Jaclyn mentioned that she was waiting in line for her turn when the park staff abruptly informed them that the ride was closed and asked them to leave. It was then that they noticed some passengers were stuck on the ride. She expressed relief that she was not among the passengers trapped. The video clearly shows some passengers suspended on the ride, waiting to be rescued.
#Epic Voyage to Moonhaven Suddenly Stops, Passengers Stranded in the Rain
Additionally, another netizen on Twitter shared an incident of another ride at Genting Highlands experiencing a malfunction, leaving passengers stranded in the rain. Twitter user Arif posted a video two days ago, revealing that the Epic Voyage to Moonhaven ride experienced technical issues, resulting in a 15-minute shutdown. He explained that the ride has both indoor and outdoor tracks, and coincidentally, the ride stopped while passengers were outdoors. However, what puzzled him was that it started raining heavily, and the staff made the passengers wait in the rain without providing umbrellas, causing them discomfort. He criticized this as his worst experience.
#ESD Global Defender Malfunction, Passengers Stranded for a While
Reportedly, on August 27th, there was another video shared by a netizen showing a malfunction in a ride at Genting Highlands. The three incidents shared by netizens occurred within a span of two weeks. TikTok user Zamilaismali’s video showed the malfunctioning ride as the ESD Global Defender at Genting Highlands. In his post, he wrote, “The passengers stuck up there are pitiable, and they were stranded for quite some time.” While the netizens who shared the videos didn’t provide specific details of the incidents, they all mentioned technical issues.
While ride malfunctions are not uncommon in amusement parks, many netizens are concerned about the frequency of these incidents at Genting Highlands. Three different ride malfunctions resulting in passengers being stranded within two weeks have raised questions about the maintenance of the rides and the possible influence of unpredictable weather during this period.
